The Hong Kong Stock Movers Tracker is a tool that displays Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) stock quotes sorted by their price change percentage. The price change percentage is the variation between the current day's closing price (or latest price) and the previous day's closing price. For example, if Tencent Holdings closed at 300 HKD yesterday and 315 HKD today, the gain = (315-300)/300 × 100% = 5%. In practice, when you open our tool, every row displays the stock ticker, name, current price, price change amount, and change percentage. You can click the column headers to switch the sorting method.
There is only one core formula:
Price Change (%) = (Latest Price - Previous Close) / Previous Close × 100
Variable definitions:
• Latest Price: The real-time trading price of the HK stock (displayed as the "Current Price" column in the tool).
• Previous Close: The final trading price from the previous trading day.
Why does this formula make sense? Because the percentage change eliminates the magnitude differences between various stock prices, allowing investors to intuitively compare the daily price movement of different stocks. For instance, a 10 HKD stock gaining 0.5 HKD and a 500 HKD stock gaining 5 HKD have vastly different absolute change amounts, but both have a 5% gain, reflecting the exact same proportional movement.
Step 1: In the filter section at the top of the page, click the "Market Board" dropdown and select "Main Board" or "GEM" (defaults to Main Board).
Step 2: In the "Sort By" dropdown, select "Top Gainers" or "Top Losers," and the tool will immediately refresh the list based on that rule.
Step 3: If you need to filter by specific metrics, enter the minimum and maximum values in the "Change Range (%)" input boxes (e.g., entering "-2" and "5" will only display stocks with a price change between -2% and 5%).
Step 4: Click any column header (such as "Current Price" or "Turnover") to toggle ascending/descending order for that column.
Step 5: Check the "Unusual Movement" column on the right: The tool marks the top 10% of gainers with a red arrow (↑), the top 10% of losers with a green arrow (↓), and stocks with unusually high trading volume with an orange asterisk.
Let's take "viewing today's top 5 HK stock gainers" as an example. Open our HK Stock Movers Tracker above:
• Keep the "Market Board" dropdown at the default "Main Board";
• Select "Top Gainers" in the "Sort By" dropdown;
• Click the "Sort" button (or wait for auto-refresh, depending on the tool's design).
The first stock will appear at the top of the list: for example, "Hua Hong Semi (01347)" with a current price of 28.50 HKD, a change of +12.5%, and a change amount of +3.17 HKD. The second stock: "AAC Tech (02018)" with a current price of 35.20 HKD, a change of +9.8%, and a change amount of +3.14 HKD. ... The fifth stock has a change of +8.1%.
Interpretation: Stocks with a gain exceeding 10% are considered to have strong unusual movements in the HK market. This usually indicates major positive news (like earnings guidance or policy announcements) or short-term speculative trading. You can further analyze this by combining it with trading volume and historical data.
Comparison 1: Viewing the Top Losers
If you want to screen for the worst-performing stocks today, change "Sort By" to "Top Losers". The first stock on the list might be "Xiaomi Corp-W (01810)" with a current price of 24.10 HKD and a change of -6.2%. The "Unusual Movement" column on the right will display a green downward arrow. Compared to a +12.5% gain, a -6.2% drop is moderately strong for a single-day movement, signaling a need to check for company earnings reports or negative industry news.
Comparison 2: Filtering by Change Range
Enter "0" and "3" in the "Change Range (%)" input boxes and click confirm. The tool will only display stocks with gains between 0% and 3%, such as "China Mobile (00941)" at +1.8% and "ICBC (01398)" at +0.9%. This type of filtering is ideal for finding mildly rising blue-chip stocks while excluding highly volatile penny stocks.
Here is a reference range table (percentages refer to price change):
Note: The above ranges are empirical references and do not constitute investment advice. Actual decisions should comprehensively consider factors like P/E ratio, trading volume, and industry sector.
Q1: How often is the data updated?
Our tool updates via the HKEX real-time market data interface, with a delay of about 15 minutes (free version) or in real-time (paid version). The "Current Price" and "Price Change" refresh periodically (usually every 30 seconds).
Q2: Why do some stocks show a "0.00%" price change?
Possible reasons: The stock is suspended from trading that day; the latest traded price is exactly the same as the previous close; or the data source hasn't covered the stock (e.g., for some newly listed stocks on their first day, the previous close is generally the IPO price).
Q3: Do the top gainers and losers lists include all HK stocks?
By default, they include all stocks on the Main Board and GEM (around 2,500 stocks), but you can filter them using the "Market Board" option. If a specific stock isn't showing, please check if you entered the wrong ticker or if the stock has been delisted.
Q4: Can I view the movers ranking for a specific historical date?
This tool only provides real-time or intraday market data and does not offer historical lookbacks. For historical data, please refer to the daily closing rankings officially disclosed by HKEX.
Q5: What does a price change of over 100% mean?
The HK market has no daily price limits. When a stock's price
