Crop Visible PDF Areas with Precise Margins

PDF page cropping hides unwanted areas around a page, such as dark scanner borders, excessive white space, binding holes, or browser print margins. Enter separate top, right, bottom, and left measurements in millimeters, then apply them to all pages or a selected page range. Cropping changes the visible page boundary without stretching or reflowing the remaining content, so text, images, and vector graphics retain their original proportions.

Important: PDF cropping typically hides edge content using the CropBox, which means the original objects may remain in the file. Cropping is suitable for cleaning up layouts and improving readability, but not for removing ID numbers, names, or other sensitive information. To remove content permanently, use a proper redaction process and verify that the underlying text cannot be copied or recovered.

How to Measure and Enter Margins

Start with a small value of 3–5 mm. Enter 0 for any side you do not want to crop; setting all four sides to 0 will not produce a visible change. The same margins are applied to each selected page based on its current dimensions, so mixed A4, Letter, and receipt-sized pages may look different after cropping. Leave the page range blank to crop every page, or enter a range such as 1-3,8.

After downloading the result, check every page for headers, footers, page numbers, annotations, signatures, stamps, and crop marks. If text near an edge has been cut off, return to the original file and reduce the corresponding margin. Avoid repeatedly cropping an already cropped file. Measurements are entered in millimeters for convenient print and office workflows, but because pages may have different original CropBox settings, always inspect the edges visually.

Clean Up Scans, Ebooks, and Presentations

When scanned books have wide white borders, cropping can make the text occupy more of the screen when reading on a tablet. Dark borders around scanned receipts can be removed one edge at a time. Extra canvas around exported presentation slides can be reduced consistently, while binding holes and registration marks can be hidden before printing. If margins vary significantly from page to page, process similar pages in separate groups instead of applying one set of measurements to the entire document.

Cropping does not automatically detect content boundaries or straighten skewed pages. Test a sample before removing white space automatically, especially when photos or charts extend to the page edge. To standardize paper dimensions, use PDF page resizing rather than cropping.

Security, Signatures, and Printing Considerations

Cropping changes page boundaries and may invalidate existing digital signatures. Apply formal signatures only after completing all layout changes, including reordering, rotating, cropping, and adding page numbers. Print-ready files may also contain BleedBox and TrimBox boundaries or crop marks. This tool is intended for everyday visible-area adjustments and does not replace a professional prepress review. Confirm the printer's requirements before submitting a PDF for production.

Back up the original file before cropping. Afterward, inspect the first and last pages, odd and even pages, and any pages with different dimensions. When handling personal information, do not assume that hidden content has been deleted. Store downloaded results securely, and do not use temporary links for long-term archiving. If you plan to run OCR, first remove obvious dark borders without cutting into the text, then perform recognition. This can help reduce noise around the edges.

In PDFs containing annotations, link hotspots, or form controls, cropping reduces the visible page area, but interactive object coordinates may still be based on the original page. Test links and form fields before publishing. A layout optimized for mobile reading may not be suitable for printing, so consider creating separate screen and print versions.
