Photos, scanned pages, duplicate resources, and inefficient object structures can turn a PDF of just a few dozen pages into a large attachment. PDF compression re-encodes page images and optimizes the file structure, making files easier to send by email, upload to forms, and share in messaging apps. It also reduces the storage and bandwidth needed for archiving and downloads. Choose from three compression levels: Smallest Size for strict upload limits, Balanced for a practical mix of readability and file size, or High Quality for contracts, charts, and documents intended for printing. Each file is processed separately, so uploading multiple PDFs will not merge them.
Results depend on the source file. Image-heavy scanned PDFs usually offer the greatest size reduction. Files that are already compressed, consist mainly of vector text, or are already small may shrink only slightly. The tool does not guarantee a fixed compression ratio or produce misleading results by deleting pages or damaging text.

After uploading a PDF, start with Balanced. Download the result and zoom in to inspect small text, table lines, stamps, and QR codes for clear edges. If the file still exceeds the platform's limit, try Smallest Size. For printing, archiving, or legal review, choose High Quality. You can process multiple files at once. Each PDF is generated separately with a compressed suffix, and the original file is not overwritten.
Do not judge the result by the compression percentage alone. Check the page count, page dimensions, searchable text, bookmarks, transparency layers, and signature status. Resaving a digitally signed PDF will usually invalidate its existing signature. If signature evidence must be preserved, keep the unmodified original and complete the signing process again after compression.

Email services often limit attachments to 10 MB or 20 MB. Balanced is usually suitable for project reports, course materials, and product manuals. When a government or company form has a per-file upload limit, use Smallest Size for scanned documents, then verify ID numbers, invoice amounts, and stamp details. For long-term archiving, choose High Quality and retain the original PDF as the master copy. If a downloaded document is only needed for reading on a mobile device, Balanced can reduce loading time and data usage.
PDFs containing many high-resolution photos usually see the greatest reduction, while files made primarily of fonts and vector graphics may shrink less. Repeated compression causes cumulative quality loss, so always select a new compression level from the original file instead of compressing an already compressed result.

In rare cases, re-encoding a highly optimized PDF may not reduce its size. If that happens, keep the original. When comparing files, also confirm that their content and page counts are identical.
Standard text and vector content are preserved whenever possible. Compression mainly adjusts images and the document's object structure. After downloading, test whether the text is still searchable and can be copied.
An exact file size cannot be guaranteed because page count, image complexity, and embedded fonts vary. Try each compression level and compare the resulting quality and file size.
Smallest Size is more likely to affect image quality. For printed documents, use High Quality and check a test print before producing the final version.
Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked with a password removal tool first. Make sure you have permission to modify the file.

Files are uploaded directly through object storage to the processing service. When processing is complete, a temporary download link is provided; do not share this link publicly or keep it accessible long term. For files containing identification documents, contracts, medical records, or financial data, promptly delete temporary local copies after downloading and follow your organization's data policies. Compression is not a substitute for redaction, data anonymization, or metadata removal, and it cannot repair damaged files. If a PDF cannot be parsed, try a PDF repair tool first. To remove details such as author or software information, use a dedicated PDF sanitization tool.
Back up important files before processing. Afterward, check at least the first page, last page, several random pages, the total page count, attachments, and signature warnings. For commercial printing, archival preservation, or legal submissions, follow the recipient's requirements for PDF version, resolution, and color settings.
