As of Q4 2023, the Tianhong Yu'e Bao Money Market Fund had an AUM of approximately 688.9 billion RMB—this number represents the fund's "net asset value size," which is the market value of the fund's total assets minus its liabilities. Changes in fund size directly reflect the combined results of capital inflows/outflows and net asset value (NAV) fluctuations. In our Mutual Fund AUM Tracker, you simply enter the fund ticker to get the historical size data of the fund over any time period, presented in charts and tables.
Fund Size = Total Fund Shares × NAV per Share
The total shares represent the number of fund units held by investors, and the NAV per share is the value of each unit. Size growth can come from new subscriptions (increase in shares) or NAV appreciation; size decline can result from redemptions or NAV depreciation. The underlying logic of our tracking tool is: we fetch the total shares and NAV per share for each reporting period (usually daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly) from authoritative data sources (e.g., fund company quarterly reports, exchange announcements), and then apply the above formula to calculate the historical size series.
Let's take the "E Fund Consumer Industry Equity Fund (110022)" as an example. After opening the tool:
• Enter 110022 in the search box and click search;
• Select the "Last 3 Years" range (2021-01-01 to 2023-12-31);
• Click "View Size Changes", and the chart immediately shows:
- At the beginning of 2021, the size was about 29 billion RMB, peaking at about 34.2 billion RMB in mid-2021;
- After that, the size gradually declined, dropping to about 18 billion RMB by the end of 2023.
The table data further shows: 2021 Q1 size was 29.03 billion, 2021 Q2 was 34.17 billion, 2022 Q1 was 26.65 billion, and 2023 Q4 was 18.02 billion. Interpretation: The fund's size first rose and then fell, mainly affected by the volatility of the consumer sector and investor redemptions. The size peaked at the sector's high point and subsequently shrank due to NAV declines and share reductions.
Control Example: Bond Fund vs. Equity Fund. We simultaneously search for "China Merchants Industry Bond A (217022)" and "Zhong Ou Healthcare Mixed A (003095)", both selecting the last 2 years (2022-2024).
• The China Merchants Industry Bond size grew slowly from 4.5 billion RMB in early 2022 to 5.2 billion RMB in early 2024, with a stable trend, indicating that pure bond fund sizes are less affected by market volatility and have continuous steady capital inflows;
• The Zhong Ou Healthcare size surged from 8.2 billion RMB in early 2022 to 12.6 billion RMB in mid-2023 (healthcare rebound rally), and then fell back to 8.7 billion RMB, showing severe volatility. Comparison shows: active equity fund sizes follow fundamental expectations and sentiment changes, while bond fund sizes rely more on return stability.
| Size Trend | Possible Meaning |
|---|---|
| Continuous growth >20% over the past year | Rising market recognition, continuous new capital inflows; note whether it's due to a surge in NAV rather than an increase in shares (can be verified via the shares column in the table). |
| Decline >30% over the past year | May have encountered massive redemptions or a sharp drop in NAV; needs to be judged alongside performance rankings and peer averages to see if it's a systemic issue. |
| Narrow fluctuation within a certain range | Capital inflows and outflows are balanced, the fund is in a mature stage, and the main influencing factor is market NAV volatility. |
| Sudden surge/plunge in a single quarter | Pay attention to whether there have been large-scale dividends, splits, or massive subscriptions/redemptions by institutional investors. |
