This converter handles subdivisions of mainland China's renminbi (RMB): yuan, jiao, and fen. The legal unit relationship is decimal: 1 yuan = 10 jiao, and 1 jiao = 10 fen, so 1 yuan = 100 fen. These are denominations of one currency, not exchange rates between the renminbi and the US dollar or another currency.
The converter calculates using fen as its common base. It rounds the converted amount to the nearest whole fen, then shows the selected target value and equivalent values in all three units. For instance, 12.50 yuan is 1,250 fen and 125 jiao. The result also includes a Chinese uppercase amount string, such as 壹拾贰元伍角 for 12.50 yuan.

The converted value is rounded to a whole fen before the target amount and uppercase text are produced. For example, 12.345 yuan corresponds to 1,234.5 fen; the converter rounds that to 1,235 fen, which is 12.35 yuan. A different accounting or contract rule may require another treatment.
Values are formatted without unnecessary ending zeros, so an amount may appear as 0.7 rather than 0.70. This changes the display only; the equivalent values are derived from the same rounded fen total.
