Scanned or encrypted PDFs, multi-column layouts, complex tables, and formulas may not convert correctly. Scanned PDFs require OCR, which is not supported yet.
EPUB content can adapt to screen size and reader font settings, making it more convenient than a fixed-layout PDF on phones, tablets, and e-ink devices. Conversion uses Calibre ebook-convert in the cloud.
Optionally set the book title, author, and content language. Readers can display these fields in their library. The PDF filename is used when no title is supplied.
Text-based, single-column documents with clear headings work best. Scanned images, encrypted PDFs, multi-column papers, complex tables, equations, and unusual fonts may convert poorly or fail.
The source and result are stored temporarily in Alibaba Cloud OSS while Function Compute runs the conversion. Lifecycle rules should delete both objects automatically. Do not upload files you are not authorized to process.
A PDF stores pages, positioned text, and images so that the document keeps a fixed appearance. EPUB is a package of chapters, paragraphs, media, and styles that can reflow when a reader changes screen width, font size, spacing, or theme. Conversion therefore cannot simply preserve every page in another extension; it has to infer reading order and recover structure from positioned PDF content. A conventional single-column document is a better candidate than a brochure, comic, score, worksheet, or any publication whose meaning depends on exact placement.
If text cannot be selected or copied in a PDF reader, the document is probably a scan without a usable text layer. This version does not run OCR, so such a file may produce images, little text, or no useful result. Two-column papers can merge columns in the wrong order, while recurring headers, footers, and page numbers may enter the book text. Tables, footnotes, equations, vertical writing, embedded fonts, and permission restrictions introduce further uncertainty. Keep the original PDF for records; an automatically generated EPUB is not an archival replacement.
Open the result in a familiar EPUB reader and inspect the table of contents, chapter order, paragraph breaks, images, special characters, and title or author metadata. Increase the font size and rotate the device to confirm that the main text really reflows. If reading order is wrong, simplify the source by removing columns, headers, or footers before trying again. Garbled characters may come from unusual embedded fonts or broken text encoding. Ebook readers and send-to-device services also impose their own EPUB, font, and file-size rules, so check the destination requirements.
Keep the page open while processing. A network interruption, conversion timeout, damaged file, or encrypted PDF can stop the job. First confirm that the source opens normally in a local PDF reader, then retry with a smaller or structurally simpler copy. The signed result link expires, so download the EPUB soon after conversion or run the task again later. Source and result objects should be removed by OSS lifecycle rules, but cloud conversion still transfers the document off the device. Do not upload identity records, confidential contracts, unpublished work, or content you are not authorized to process.
