How to Use This Tool

Open our Call Deposit Calculator, and you will see four input fields and a dropdown menu. Follow these steps:

Enter the Principal Amount: Input the amount you plan to deposit in the "Deposit Amount" field, for example, 50000.
Select the Notice Period: Click the dropdown menu and choose either "1-Day Call Deposit" or "7-Day Call Deposit". Most banks offer different interest rates for these two types, so you will need to enter the specific rate manually.
Enter the Annual Interest Rate (%): Input the annual interest rate provided by your bank, such as 1.35. Note that you only need to enter the number, without the percent sign.
Enter the Deposit Duration (Days): Input how many days you plan to keep the money deposited, for example, 45 days. Note that call deposits require a minimum duration of 1 day (for 1-day notice) or 7 days (for 7-day notice); anything less will be calculated at the standard savings rate.
Click Calculate: The "Interest" and "Total (Principal + Interest)" will instantly appear on the right or below.

Complete Example / Practical Walkthrough

Scenario: You deposit 50,000 into a 7-day call deposit account with a posted annual interest rate of 1.35%, and you plan to leave it there for 45 days. Let's calculate the interest at maturity.

Formula: Interest = Principal × Annual Interest Rate × Deposit Days / 365

Plugging in the numbers: 50000 × 0.0135 × 45 ÷ 365 ≈ 83.22

Total (Principal + Interest) = 50000 + 83.22 = 50083.22

In the calculator: Enter 50000 for the deposit amount, select "7-Day Call Deposit" for the notice period, enter 1.35 for the annual interest rate, and 45 for the deposit days. Click calculate. You will see the interest displayed as approximately 83.22. If the rate or days change, the results will update accordingly.

Typical Use Cases

Growing Short-Term Idle Funds: For example, if you have 100,000 in business funds that you need to pay a supplier next week, leaving it in a standard checking account yields very little interest. Putting it into a 1-day call deposit earns interest at the call rate daily, yielding several times more than a standard account.
Temporary Holding for Big Purchases (Cars/Renovations): You are preparing to buy a car or renovate your home. The funds are ready, but payment isn't due for a week or two. A 7-day call deposit ensures liquidity while offering higher returns than a standard savings account.
Managing Retirement Funds: When a monthly pension arrives but isn't needed immediately, seniors can place it in a 7-day call deposit. When funds are needed, they simply notify the bank 7 days in advance, earning significantly higher interest than standard savings.

How to Interpret the Results

The calculator displays two numbers: Interest and Total (Principal + Interest).

Interest is the extra income earned from your deposit. If the interest seems low, it indicates a small principal, a low rate, or a short duration. For instance, 10,000 deposited for 1 day at a 0.8% call rate yields only 0.22 in interest.
Total (Principal + Interest) is the total amount you will receive at maturity. You can use this figure to compare with other deposit methods (like standard savings or fixed-term deposits).

Note: In reality, banks may apply standard savings rates for early withdrawals or failure to provide advance notice. Therefore, the calculator's results represent the ideal scenario of a "normal withdrawal at maturity."

Common Mistakes & Pitfalls

Confusing 1-Day and 7-Day Rates: The interest rates for the two types differ, with 7-day rates generally being higher. If you select "1-Day" but enter the 7-day rate, the calculated interest will be artificially high.
Forgetting to Deduct Interest Tax?: Currently, China temporarily exempts personal income tax on savings deposit interest, so the calculated interest is the actual amount you receive without further tax deductions.
Miscalculating the Deposit "Days": Call deposit interest is calculated based on actual days, but remember the "advance notice" requirement. For example, a 7-day call deposit requires a 7-day advance notice to the bank before withdrawal; otherwise, it defaults to the standard savings rate. The calculator assumes you provide notice on time.
Using Annual Rate/365 During Leap Years: Most banks calculate interest based on a 365-day year (regardless of leap years). Our calculator also uses 365 days, which is standard industry practice.
Missing the Minimum Deposit Threshold: The minimum deposit for personal call deposits is generally 50,000 (depending on the bank). If your principal is below this threshold, the bank may not allow you to open a call deposit account.

Limitations & Considerations

This calculator provides an estimated interest. The actual interest is subject to the final settlement at the bank counter or app. Different banks may have varying calculation rules (e.g., using Actual/360 days), though most use 365 days.
The minimum deposit amount for call deposits is generally 50,000, and some banks may require more. If your principal is less than 50,000, this tool may not apply (please use a standard savings calculator instead).
The calculator assumes you make a normal withdrawal at maturity with proper advance notice. If you withdraw early or fail to notify the bank on time, the bank will apply the standard savings rate, resulting in a much lower payout.
This tool does not calculate compound interest. Call deposits pay principal and interest in a lump sum at maturity, without automatic rollover
