This checker examines one image for a detected face, face width relative to the image, horizontal centering, and uniformity in the background band above the face. It marks checks with pass, warning, or fail style messages and outlines a detected face. It is a composition aid; it does not apply the complete rules for a U.S. passport, visa, or another identity document.
The image must be a PNG, JPG/JPEG, or WebP and no larger than 1 MB. The checker expects one face. Its face-width thresholds are broad image-composition heuristics, and its centering check measures horizontal offset. The background score samples the upper area; it does not determine whether the entire background meets an agency’s color or quality rule.
For comparison, the [U.S. Department of State passport guidance](https://travel.state.gov/en/passports/apply/help/photos.html) specifies requirements such as a 2 × 2 inch printed photo, a head 1 to 1⅜ inches high, centered positioning, and a plain white or off-white background. This checker does not measure all those conditions. Visa requirements are separately stated by the Department of State, and acceptance is left to the relevant embassy or consulate.

The page analyzes the selected image and reports whether it detects zero, one, or multiple faces. With one detected face, it also estimates face width, horizontal position, and upper-background uniformity.
A small or off-center face may be a reason to retake the photo. An uneven-background warning describes the sampled upper region only. A pass means only that the heuristic fell within that check’s threshold.
