Enter a Gregorian birth date to identify the Chinese zodiac animal associated with its lunar year. The boundary is Lunar New Year, so a January or early-February birthday can belong to the previous zodiac year even when its Gregorian year has already changed. This is why a birth-year-only lookup can be wrong around the holiday.
The result includes the lunar year, its stem-branch label, a traditional Na Yin label, the corresponding animal, and a set of nearby years in the same 12-year animal cycle. It also displays traditional element, personality, compatibility, and conflict descriptions.
The Chinese lunisolar calendar uses lunar months, while the Gregorian calendar is solar. Lunar New Year falls on a different Gregorian date each year. The Hong Kong Observatory publishes Gregorian–lunar conversion tables and notes that calculated dates close to midnight can differ by a day in some far-future cases. This lookup applies the lunar-year boundary rather than a January 1 cutoff.
For example, someone born shortly before Lunar New Year may receive the prior year’s animal; someone born on or after the new lunar year belongs to the new year’s animal. Check the relevant year’s calendar if a birthday lies exactly near the boundary.
Animal signs, stems and branches, elements, and compatibility labels are traditional classification systems. The traits and match/conflict descriptions shown are interpretive cultural associations, not measured characteristics of an individual. The lookup does not calculate a full Ba Zi chart, use the Li Chun solar-term boundary, or predict personality, relationships, health, or future events.
