Enter principal, annual yield rate, and days to quickly calculate expected returns for Alipay Yuebao
The '7-Day Annualized Yield' shown on the Yu'e Bao page (e.g., 1.50 means 1.50%). This rate is used to calculate the daily interest for estimating earnings.
Compound Interest: Daily earnings are automatically reinvested into the principal (closer to Yu'e Bao's actual mechanism). Simple Interest: Earnings are not added to the principal.
Please enter the principal, 7-day annualized yield, and holding days to estimate earnings.
Have some spare cash you want to park in Yu'ebao to earn a little extra? For example, if Xiaoming puts 100,000 RMB of idle funds into Yu'ebao for 30 days at a recent 2% annualized yield, he can earn about 164 RMB. This calculator helps you quickly figure out these numbers—no need to open Alipay and check repeatedly. Just enter your principal, the number of days, and the yield rate to see your estimated total return and daily earnings.
Whether you're waiting for your end-of-month bonus, holding rent money for half a month, or saving up allowance for your kids over summer vacation... whenever you need to estimate 'how much can I earn by putting this in Yu'ebao,' this tool comes in handy.
Behind Yu'ebao are money market funds. Returns are typically expressed using two metrics: 7-Day Annualized Yield (the average yield over the past 7 days, annualized) and Earnings Per 10,000 RMB (how much money 10,000 RMB earns per day). Actual payouts are calculated based on the 'Earnings Per 10,000 RMB,' but the annualized yield is more commonly used for everyday estimates. Our calculator defaults to using the annualized yield. The formula is simple:
Expected Return = Principal × Annualized Yield ÷ 365 × Number of Days Held
For example, 10,000 RMB at a 2% annualized yield for 30 days: 10,000 × 2% ÷ 365 × 30 ≈ 16.44 RMB. This formula is very straightforward. In reality, Yu'ebao calculates daily returns based on the earnings per 10,000 RMB and reinvests them (compound interest), but the short-term difference is extremely small. For ordinary users, estimating with the annualized yield is perfectly sufficient.
10000.2.0 (be careful not to enter 0.02).30.If you prefer to calculate using "Earnings Per 10,000 RMB," the tool also has an optional "Earnings Per 10,000 RMB" input field. If you know the exact daily earnings per 10,000 RMB (e.g., 0.5 RMB/10,000 RMB), entering this will give you a result closer to the actual payout.
Inputs: Principal = 100,000 RMB, Annualized Yield = 2.0%, Days Held = 30 days.
Calculation Process:
Expected Return = 100,000 × 2% ÷ 365 × 30 = 100,000 × 0.02 ÷ 365 × 30
= 2,000 ÷ 365 × 30 ≈ 5.4795 × 30 ≈ 164.38 RMB
Average Daily Return ≈ 164.38 ÷ 30 ≈ 5.48 RMB
Total Principal + Interest = 100,000 + 164.38 = 100,164.38 RMB
Interpreting the Results: After 30 days, you can withdraw a little over 100,164 RMB in principal and interest. You earn about 5 RMB a day, which is enough for a cup of milk tea. If the annualized yield drops to 1.5%, the same 100,000 RMB held for 30 days will only earn about 123 RMB—a noticeable difference. Returns fluctuate with the market, and Yu'ebao's 7-day annualized yield changes daily, though short-term variations are usually minor.
Our calculator provides three numbers:
Simple decision reference: If the expected return is greater than 0, it's definitely better than leaving it in a regular bank checking account (which yields about 0.3% annually). If the daily return exceeds 1 RMB, it means your principal is at least 18,000 RMB (calculated at a 2% annualized rate).
Q: When are Yu'ebao returns paid out each day?
A: Usually, the previous day's returns are displayed the next morning (around 8:00 AM) and automatically added to your Yu'ebao principal. You can check your daily return details on the "Yu'ebao" page in Alipay.
Q: Why are my actual returns slightly lower than the calculator's estimate?
A: There could be three reasons: First, you transferred the money after 15:00, so it didn't earn interest on the first day; second, the annualized yield dropped during your holding period; third, the calculator uses an annualized estimate, while actual payouts are based on earnings per 10,000 RMB, causing a slight deviation. A difference of a few cents is completely normal.
Q: What is the maximum amount I can put in Yu'ebao?
A: Currently, the maximum holding limit for an individual Alipay Yu'ebao account is 100,000 RMB (some users may have lower limits). If you deposit more than 100,000 RMB, the excess will be transferred to other money market funds or upgraded Yu'ebao products. Our tool assumes your deposit is within the limit.
Q: Which is more accurate: Yu'ebao's 7-day annualized yield or earnings per 10,000 RMB?
A: Earnings per 10,000 RMB is more direct—it tells you exactly how much 10,000 RMB earns per day. The 7-day annualized yield converts the recent 7-day earnings per 10,000 RMB into an annual rate to make it easier to compare different term products. In the calculator, if you want the highest precision, use the daily published earnings per 10,000 RMB; if you don't want to look it up, the annualized yield is sufficient.
Q: Can I spend money while keeping it in Yu'ebao?
A: Yes. Money in Yu'ebao can be used directly for Alipay purchases, transfers, credit card repayments, and even withdrawals to your bank card. However, every time you spend a portion, your remaining principal decreases, and subsequent returns will decrease accordingly. Our calculator assumes you leave the deposit untouched; if you make withdrawals midway, your actual returns will be lower than the calculated result.
Q: Is this calculator different from Alipay's official return calculation?
A: The "Return Preview" on the Alipay Yu'ebao page can also provide estimates, but you have to click into it to see. Our tool is more direct—you don't need to open the Alipay App; just enter the numbers on the webpage to get a quick result. Both use the same annualized conversion algorithm.
Now you can try your own numbers in the calculator above—for example, put the 3,000 RMB you plan to use for next month's Huabei repayment into Yu'ebao for 20 days and see how many extra bucks you can earn!
