How to Interpret Results / Field Meanings

Each search result contains the following key fields. Let's look at their practical meanings:

• Degree Level: "Undergraduate", "Associate/Vocational", or "Adult Higher Education". Only undergraduate institutions can award bachelor's degrees; associate degrees represent a lower academic level.
• Institution Type: "Public", "Private", "Independent College", etc. Public schools have lower tuition fees, while private schools are more expensive. Independent colleges are mostly at the undergraduate level but also have high tuition fees.
• 211/985/Double First-Class: A "Yes" indicates it is a national key development university, which typically boasts stronger faculty and research capabilities.
• Governing Body: National key universities directly under the Ministry of Education usually have the most resources; provincial universities are more locally focused.
• Location: Accurate to the district/county level. Some universities have multiple campuses; we display the district of the main campus.

If no results are found after searching, possible reasons include: entering a non-standard name (e.g., "Nanda" could refer to "Nanjing University" or "Nankai University"), or the school is not on the Ministry of Education's published list of national higher education institutions (a diploma mill). In this case, it is recommended to use the full name or verify on the official website.

Additions, name changes, mergers, and revocations occur every year. If you search after July, some newly established universities may not be included yet. For universities newly established in 2025, please refer to official responses.
• Abbreviation Ambiguity: The tool has a built-in library of common abbreviations, but omissions still exist. For example, "Nanda" defaults to matching both Nanjing University and Nankai University, and the results will show both schools; users need to judge based on the location. If searching by abbreviation yields no results, please provide the full name.
• No Admission Cut-off Scores Provided: This tool only provides basic university attributes (degree level, location, etc.) and does not include dynamic information such as historical admission cut-off scores, major offerings, or tuition fees. For cut-off scores, please visit the official website of your provincial examination authority.
• Private School Labeling: Independent colleges and private undergraduate schools also offer legitimate degrees but have higher tuition fees. The results will clearly label this under "Institution Type", so parents should check carefully.

1. Searching with Old School Names: Some universities have changed their names (e.g., "Beijing Foreign Studies University" was formerly "Beijing Foreign Languages Institute"). Some universities have multiple campuses (like Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao), whose governing bodies and degree levels may differ from the main campus. Mistaking "Adult Higher Education" for Full-Time Universities: Schools with a "Degree Level" of "Adult Higher Education" in the results (such as Beijing Radio and Television University) cannot be applied to through the standard Gaokao; they are strictly continuing education pathways. Do not confuse them.
4. Relying on Abbreviations Leading to Missed Options: For example, "Shandong University of Science and Technology" is abbreviated as "Shanke", but "Shanxi University of Science and Technology" does not exist. When using abbreviations, please note whether the number of results is reasonable.

Yes. The "Project 985" field in the results will display "Yes". The school is directly under the Ministry of Education, is also a Project 211 and Double First-Class institution, and is located in Hongshan District, Wuhan.

3. What should I do if clicking search after entering a school name does nothing?
Please check your internet connection or try using a more accurate name (e.g., "Beijing Institute of Technology" instead of "Beiligong"). If there are still no results, the school may not be included. We recommend verifying through the Ministry of Education's "List of National Higher Education Institutions".

4. How is "Institution Type" defined in this tool?
