Gomoku (also known as Five in a Row) is a classic strategy board game. This tool provides an online two-player mode where two players take turns placing pieces on the board. The first player to form an unbroken chain of five pieces horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins. No installation is required—simply open the webpage to start playing with a friend and relive the fun of your childhood.
This tool is designed for local two-player matches and does not support online multiplayer. It is best suited for two people taking turns on the same device. Please do not use this game for gambling. The page does not save match records; refreshing the browser will reset the board, so please inform your opponent beforehand. If the game becomes unresponsive when placing a piece, please check if JavaScript is enabled in your browser.
Gomoku has a known first-player advantage. While standard tournaments often use "forbidden move" (renju) rules for Black, this casual tool does not enforce them. We recommend players agree on their own restrictions or swap playing first to ensure fairness. Common opening strategies like Huayue or Puyue can lead to quick victories. Beginners should start by learning defense—watch for your opponent's open threes and fours, and block them early.
