Overview
Understand what the tool solves, how it works, and the boundaries of its data.
Use this lookup to search a built-in directory by a country name, capital name, or continent. A match can come from an English or Chinese country or capital name, or from the continent label. This makes it useful when you remember only part of a name or want to search from a city back to its country.
Matching is case-insensitive and accepts a typed substring. The result cards show the directory’s country and capital names in English and Chinese, group matches by continent, and include a copy action. An official United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names publication provides a separate reference list of country names and capitals; the directory here is a quick lookup aid, not a live official gazetteer.
Continent is a browse filter, not a political-status classification. The entries and spellings are those available in this directory.
Guide
Follow the workflow and verify inputs and outputs with practical examples.
Type a country, capital, or continent name in the search field. You can enter an English or Chinese name, or a distinctive part of one.
Optionally select a continent filter to narrow matching entries. The text search and selected filter are applied together.
Read the bilingual country and capital labels in the result card and use its copy control if you need the displayed pair elsewhere.
For example, searching for “Tokyo” can locate an entry by capital; searching for “Japan” locates it by country. Clear the query to browse the directory, then use a continent button to focus the list.
Use cases
See how the tool fits into real work and everyday tasks.
Search a remembered city or country to check the paired entry, then compare spellings across the two displayed languages.
Use the copy control to bring a displayed country-capital pair into notes or a working document, then verify formal naming where precision matters.
Select a continent to explore its directory entries, or type its name to search the text fields directly.
Q&A
Find concise answers to common questions and confusing cases.
Yes. The search checks both country-name fields and both capital-name fields, so it works in either direction.
Do not assume complete or current coverage. It searches the entries currently included in its built-in directory; use an authoritative source for formal or time-sensitive verification.
The result reflects the spellings and continent assignment stored for that entry. Names, transliterations, and geographic conventions can differ between references.
Notes
Review scope, result limitations, and important precautions before use.
This page is a convenience lookup, not an official source for diplomatic recognition, disputed status, legal naming, or current government arrangements. Its directory is fixed within the tool rather than a live data service, so an absent result does not establish that a place has no capital. For publication, policy, travel, or other decisions that depend on current naming, confirm the entry with an appropriate government or international reference.
