When you encounter compatibility issues editing MP4 videos in Final Cut Pro or playing them in QuickTime, our Video to MOV tool can losslessly convert the video container format. MOV is a container format developed by Apple. By remuxing the video stream (such as H.264) and audio stream (such as AAC), it keeps the original encoded data intact and only changes how the file is packaged.
What is the difference between MOV and MP4?
Both are essentially container formats, but MOV offers better support for Apple's professional software.
Will the conversion reduce video quality?
This tool uses stream remuxing technology and does not re-encode the video data, so there is theoretically no loss in image quality.
Extremely large files (>2GB) may fail to convert due to browser memory limits; we recommend trimming or splitting them first. The converted file will retain its original resolution and frame rate.
For professional video editors: The MOV + ProRes encoding combination is the gold standard in the Apple ecosystem. For everyday users, an MOV with H.264 encoding offers the best balance of quality and file size. Typical conversion example: Input MP4 (H.264/AAC) → Output MOV (Maintains H.264/AAC).
