Overview
Understand what the tool solves, how it works, and the boundaries of its data.
This interactive exercise uses sample Renminbi notes and coins to practise denomination recognition, exact payment, and change. Renminbi (RMB) is the currency used in the People’s Republic of China; this is a Chinese-currency lesson, not a U.S. dollar coin-counting activity. The currency units are yuan, jiao, and fen: 1 yuan equals 10 jiao, and 1 jiao equals 10 fen.
The exercise models the selected note or coin values and amounts in yuan and jiao. A learner can recognize a denomination, combine values to match a price, or choose the difference after paying at least the price. For arithmetic, converting everything to jiao gives one common unit: 12 yuan 6 jiao is 126 jiao. The legal currency-unit relationship is stated in Article 4 of China’s Regulations on the Administration of Renminbi.
Learn RMB lets a learner select a sample note or coin and review its value. Pay exactly adds selected pieces to a payment total, which can be checked against the target price. Change challenge asks for the difference after the selected payment reaches or exceeds the price. The target amount can be adjusted or randomized within the exercise’s supported range.
The displayed samples cover selected denominations, rather than serving as a complete catalog of every issue or coin. The value task is arithmetic practice: recognize a piece, add its value, and explain why the resulting total matches the price or what remains as change.
Guide
Follow the workflow and verify inputs and outputs with practical examples.
Choose Learn RMB, Pay exactly, or Change challenge according to the skill being practised.
Set the target price in yuan and jiao, or use a randomized target. Read the amount aloud before choosing pieces.
In a payment mode, select notes and coins to add them to the total. In exact-payment mode, make the total equal the target; in the change challenge, the payment must reach or exceed it.
For change, calculate payment minus price, select the matching difference, and check the answer.
After feedback, move to another question or adjust the amount. Explain the sum or subtraction instead of relying only on the visual response.
For a 12 yuan 6 jiao price, one exact combination is a 10-yuan note, two 1-yuan pieces, a 5-jiao coin, and a 1-jiao coin: 126 jiao total. If 20 yuan is paid, the difference is 7 yuan 4 jiao. The exercise can make this relationship visible by showing the selected pieces and the running total.
Use cases
See how the tool fits into real work and everyday tasks.
An adult can state a price and ask the learner to propose a combination first, then use the payment mode to check the arithmetic.
A teacher can project a change question, pause before checking, and ask students to describe which amount is the price, which is paid, and which is the difference.
A beginner can select sample notes and coins in recognition mode, name their values, then move to combining values for a price.
Q&A
Find concise answers to common questions and confusing cases.
The displayed total shows the selected pieces’ combined value. The check step compares it with the task’s expected payment or change answer.
The change challenge is available once the selected payment is at least the target price. If it is short, add another piece first.
Yes. Both count as one yuan in the arithmetic exercise, even though one is a note and the other a coin.
No. The pictured pieces and arithmetic use Renminbi denominations. Use a separate activity based on U.S. currency when practising dollars and cents.
Notes
Review scope, result limitations, and important precautions before use.
The sample pictures cover selected Renminbi denominations and are provided for learning. They are not a complete issue or circulation guide and cannot establish whether a real banknote or coin is genuine, currently circulating, or accepted in a particular transaction. Consult official Chinese currency information for questions about a specific note, issue, or circulation status.
