Overview
Understand what the tool solves, how it works, and the boundaries of its data.
This calculator estimates a date from a date of birth and one of three worker categories: male employee, female employee whose original statutory age was 50, or female employee whose original statutory age was 55. The schedule took effect on January 1, 2025. Under the national rule, the statutory age for men and the 55-year category rises by one month for every four months in the schedule; the 50-year category rises by one month for every two months. The increases have respective limits of 36 and 60 months.
The result includes an estimated retirement date, age at that date, current age, and time remaining. For example, entering January 1, 1990 and selecting Male gives an estimated date of January 1, 2053 under the calculator's month-based rule. The date is a planning reference for this mainland China schedule, not a US Social Security estimate or a calculation for another jurisdiction.
If you enter a contribution start date, the page estimates elapsed and projected contribution time by treating the period from that date through the estimated retirement date as continuous. It compares the projection with the minimum contribution period assigned to the retirement year. The national schedule keeps the minimum at 15 years through 2029, then adds six months each year from 2030 until it reaches 20 years. This comparison is an estimate based on the date you enter; it does not check contribution records.
Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China, Legal Information Platform: Decision on Implementing the Gradual Raising of the Statutory Retirement Age and State Council Measures — supports the effective date, category-based steps, minimum contribution-period schedule and statutory exceptions; effective January 1, 2025; checked October 2, 2026. Guide
Follow the workflow and verify inputs and outputs with practical examples.
Choose the full birth date. The month affects the phased schedule, so a birth year alone is not enough to reproduce the estimate.
Choose Male, Female (Worker), or Female (Manager/Cadre) according to the applicable original statutory-age classification in mainland China. The label is not a general estimate of job seniority; if you are unsure which category applies, check your employment record or ask the relevant local authority.
Enter the date contributions began if you want to see a continuous-period projection and comparison with the minimum for the estimated retirement year. Leave it blank to calculate the retirement date without that comparison.
Read the estimated date, retirement age and time remaining. When a contribution date is supplied, also review the projected duration, year-specific minimum and estimated gap or match. The displayed dates can be shared with the selected inputs or the retirement date copied.
Use cases
See how the tool fits into real work and everyday tasks.
A worker covered by the mainland China schedule can compare the estimated date with career or household plans, then confirm the applicable category and date with official records.
Family members can enter their own birth dates and categories to compare likely retirement reference dates. Keep each person's result separate because category and birth month change the schedule.
If you know when contributions began, use the optional projection to identify a rough period to check against official account statements. Use actual credited months, including gaps, when discussing qualification with the responsible office.
Q&A
Find concise answers to common questions and confusing cases.
No. It applies a mainland China statutory-age schedule. It does not calculate US Social Security eligibility, benefit amounts, or retirement ages in other countries.
The reform maintains separate phased schedules for female employees whose original statutory ages were 50 and 55. Choose the category that applies to your employment status under the mainland China rules; the calculator cannot determine that status for you.
No. It assumes continuous contributions from the entered date and compares that span with the rule's minimum for the estimated retirement year. It does not verify credited periods, interruptions, transfers, or other eligibility conditions.
The main estimate follows the standard phased schedule. The rule text separately provides for flexible early or delayed retirement and specified early-retirement cases; those individual routes are not calculated here.
Notes
Review scope, result limitations, and important precautions before use.
This is an informational estimate for the general employee categories in mainland China's phased statutory retirement-age reform. It does not determine formal retirement approval, pension eligibility, or benefit amount. The contribution comparison assumes uninterrupted contributions from the entered start date; actual insurance records can include credited-month rules, gaps, transfers or other details this estimate cannot inspect. The standard estimate also does not calculate flexible early or delayed retirement, special-work early retirement, or other exceptions. Confirm your category, dates and contribution history with your employer or the responsible human resources and social security office. The rule may be amended, so check the current official text when making a decision.
