The site reads the source IP for this request. Modern browsers generally do not expose a device's private LAN address to web pages, so this result shows the public address visible to the site whenever possible. Local development may show a loopback or private address.
The large value in the result card is the source address that ToolKK sees when this device requests the page's IP endpoint. A home connection will often present the public address of a router or an upstream provider gateway. A company network, campus, public Wi-Fi, proxy, cloud browser, or VPN can instead present an address shared by everyone using that exit. The card identifies whether the received value uses IPv4 or IPv6 and whether it belongs to public or non-public address space.
This result is not an inventory of interfaces inside your phone or computer. The page does not scan the local network, and ordinary websites generally cannot read private interface addresses such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x from a modern browser. Record the time and connection name when comparing two results. Mobile carriers and corporate gateways can rotate exits by region, radio session, or load, so a changed value is not automatically evidence of a fault.
A public IP is routable on the internet and gives a remote service a destination for its response. Private IPv4 ranges, including 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, and 192.168.0.0/16, are intended for internal networks. Several phones and computers can have different private addresses while network address translation makes them appear under one public IPv4 address.
A local or private result can be expected on a development server, a loopback request, or a reverse proxy that has not been configured to pass a trusted client address. A public result is not a permanent device identifier. Internet providers can assign addresses dynamically, place customers behind carrier-grade NAT, or change an exit after a reconnect.
IPv4 uses four decimal groups and has a limited address space, which is one reason home NAT and carrier-grade NAT are widespread. IPv6 uses a longer hexadecimal format separated by colons and offers a much larger address space. This page labels the address that actually reached the endpoint; it does not force separate IPv4 and IPv6 probes merely to fill two rows.
DNS answers, operating-system preference, router support, provider routing, and current network quality influence which protocol a browser selects. IPv6 support does not mean every request uses IPv6, and a globally scoped IPv6 address does not mean a firewall has been bypassed. A full dual-stack diagnosis should also inspect system and router settings and use dedicated reachability tests.
A working VPN normally causes websites to see the VPN server's exit address rather than the previous home or mobile exit. HTTP proxies, corporate security gateways, remote desktops, and hosted browsers can produce the same effect. If the value does not change after enabling a tunnel, verify that the intended traffic is routed through it, reload the page, and request the result again.
Mobile providers often share public IPv4 addresses among many customers and may select a different exit when the cell, region, or session changes. An IP address supplies limited network attribution; it cannot independently prove a person's identity, a physical device, or a precise live location. Investigations should correlate timestamps, account activity, device records, and server logs.
A server must receive a source address to answer a web request, and this page reflects that value back to the current browser. Treat an IP as network-identifying information. Before sharing a screenshot, ticket, or recording, consider masking it and avoid publishing it alongside an account name, exact timestamp, and internal system details.
The checker does not scan ports, enumerate nearby devices, classify an address as malicious, or calculate an exact location. A familiar address is not proof that a connection is secure, and a new address does not by itself prove an account compromise. Why does the value differ from my router? A router may show a private LAN address, an upstream WAN address, and several interface values. ToolKK shows the source observed after any NAT, proxy, or VPN on the path.
Why does Refresh return the same address? Refresh sends a new request; it does not ask your provider to issue a new address. The value changes only when the effective exit changes.
Does this reveal my exact city or ISP? The current result does not perform an IP geolocation database lookup. Approximate database labels can be useful elsewhere but should not be confused with GPS or verified residence.
Can it show my phone's Wi-Fi address? Standard web pages usually cannot read that private interface address. Check the operating system's Wi-Fi details or the router administration page.
Is IPv6 unsafe? The protocol version alone is not a security verdict. Firewall policy, software updates, and access controls remain essential. Try switching one connection now and compare the refreshed exit with the original.
