Read device orientation and current location, and show heading, direction, and clickable latitude and longitude for copying.
The Compass and Coordinates tool brings your phone's orientation sensors and system location results together on one page. The dial changes as you turn the device, while also showing the eight directions north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, and northwest, plus headings from 0° to 359°. Heading uses true north as 0°, east is about 90°, south is about 180°, and west is about 270°.
When location permission is allowed and location services are enabled, the page also shows latitude and longitude. Latitude indicates north-south position, and longitude indicates east-west position; the tool keeps enough decimal places for everyday recording. Click the latitude or longitude card to copy the plain-number coordinate separately, which is useful for pasting into maps, forms, chat, or field notes.
After opening the tool, keep your phone as level as possible and move away from magnetic phone stands, headphone cases, speakers, chargers, and large metal objects. Once the dial settles, point the top of the phone toward the direction you want to check, then read the direction name and heading. If you are walking while checking, hand movement and surrounding magnetic fields can make the numbers jump, so stop for a few seconds before recording them.
The compass reflects the magnetic north direction detected by the phone's sensors, which may differ from true north on a map because of magnetic declination. This version is meant for everyday orientation and does not include the magnetic declination model, course averaging, slope compensation, or measurement logs needed for professional surveying. For hiking, sailing, aviation, and engineering layout work, use certified professional equipment with offline maps.
When you use the coordinate feature for the first time, the system may ask for location permission. After you allow it, the tool will try to fetch a high-accuracy current location once; if positioning is still in progress, a placeholder will be shown, and if it fails, you will see the reason plus a retry option. Open outdoor areas are usually more likely to produce stable results than basements, tunnels, and dense high-rise areas.
Click the latitude card to copy latitude, or click the longitude card to copy longitude. A success message will appear after copying. The copied values are signed decimal degrees: north latitude and east longitude are usually positive, while south latitude and west longitude are usually negative. When sharing with others, provide both values and keep the order "latitude, longitude" to avoid landing on the wrong place in maps.
If the direction is clearly off, the dial reacts strangely after you rotate the phone, or the system says the accuracy is low, click the compass calibration hint and slowly move the phone in a figure-eight shape several times. During calibration, remove magnetic cases, step away from vehicles, railings, steel desks, and running electrical devices, then place the phone flat again and watch for changes.
A figure-eight motion cannot remove a strong magnetic field that is still present nearby, and it cannot fix a device that does not have a magnetometer. Sensor quality, mounting direction, and system fusion algorithms vary across devices, so a difference of a few degrees at the same location is normal. If the value changes suddenly, comparing again a few meters away is often more effective than repeating calibration over and over.
Everyday use includes checking the rough direction of a room, window, or solar panel, recording the coordinates of an outdoor meeting point, describing your current location to rescuers or teammates, and quickly copying latitude and longitude when maps are awkward to use. House viewing, camping, photography scouting, and geography learning can also use heading as an intuitive reference.
Coordinate accuracy is affected by satellite visibility, network-assisted positioning, device chipset quality, and environmental obstruction. Showing more decimal places does not mean the actual accuracy reaches centimeter level; the decimals are only a display format. For positioning tasks involving property boundaries, construction layout, legal evidence, or life safety, use professional GNSS equipment and proper procedures.
Direction display depends on the device's orientation sensors, and coordinate display requires system location permission. If you deny location permission, you can still use the compass on devices that have an orientation sensor, but the latitude and longitude area will be unavailable. The tool will not request contacts, microphone, or photo library permissions, and it will not automatically send your coordinates to contacts.
Coordinate calculation and display happen inside the current tool page. Only when you choose to copy or share does the content enter the clipboard or the system sharing flow. ToolKK still records tool view and usage events under its existing rules, but those analytics events should not include the latitude and longitude values shown on the page. If the copied coordinate is sensitive, you can overwrite the clipboard with other text afterward.
If it keeps spinning, first check whether your device has an orientation sensor; some tablets and entry-level phones do not have a magnetometer, so they can locate but cannot point reliably. If latitude and longitude are unavailable, check the system location toggle, the app's location permission, and outdoor signal quality, then tap retry. If the compass direction does not match the map, confirm whether the map uses true north, whether auto-rotation is enabled, and whether there is a magnet near the phone.
It is normal if the copied result does not show N, S, E, or W, because the clipboard uses signed decimal degrees that most maps can recognize directly. If you plan to share coordinates publicly, first consider whether doing so could expose a home address, workplace, or real-time whereabouts, and send them only to trusted recipients.
