Tiancang Festival, also known as "Tiancang Festival" or "Tianchuan Festival", is a traditional folk festival in China, mainly popular in northern regions. It usually takes place on the 25th day of the first lunar month each year. This festival originated from people's worship of grains and their desire for a good harvest. In ancient times, people believed that the 25th day of the first lunar month was the day when the "Granary God" descended to earth. On this day, people would offer sacrifices to the Granary God and hold a "Tiancang" ceremony, which involved scattering plant ash in the courtyard to form shapes of granaries and grain stacks, symbolically filling the granaries to pray for a full granary and abundant harvests in the new year.
On the day of Tiancang Festival, various regions also have different customs, such as eating noodles, pancakes, and other flour-based foods, symbolizing "filling the granary to the brim"; some regions light lamps, known as "illuminating the granary", hoping for bright granaries and no rats stealing grain. These customs all embody people's yearning for a better life and their anticipation of a bumper harvest in agricultural production.
The lunar calendar, also known as the Xia calendar or Chinese calendar, is a lunisolar calendar that takes into account both the phases of the moon and the sun's annual movement. It determines months based on the waxing and waning cycles of the moon, and at the same time, adjusts its relationship with the tropical year by setting leap months to ensure seasonal accuracy.
When calculating, the "Tiancang Festival Countdown" tool first obtains the current Gregorian date. Then, it uses an internal algorithm to convert the current Gregorian date into the corresponding lunar date, and based on the fixed date of the 25th day of the first lunar month, calculates the Gregorian date of the next Tiancang Festival. Finally, by comparing the number of days between the current Gregorian date and the Gregorian date of the next Tiancang Festival, the final countdown result is obtained. This process involves complex lunar algorithms, including the handling of leap months, to ensure precise and error-free date conversion.
