How to Use This Tool

Open our Produce Price Lookup page, and you will see three input fields: "Variety" (e.g., "Napa cabbage"), "Region" (e.g., "Beijing"), and "Date" (defaults to today). Follow these steps:

1. Enter the name of the agricultural product you want to look up in the "Variety" box, such as "Tomato". Fuzzy matching is supported; typing "Tom" will show suggestions.
2. Select or enter a province or city name in the "Region" box, such as "Shandong".
3. The "Date" defaults to today, but you can click the calendar to select data from previous days.
4. Click the blue "Check Price" button. A table will appear below displaying the market name, wholesale price (RMB/kg), price fluctuation, and update time.

Let's look at a real-world example. Suppose today is March 20, 2025, and you want to know the wholesale price of Napa cabbage at the Beijing Xinfadi Market. Steps:

1. Enter "Napa cabbage" in "Variety".
2. Enter "Beijing" in "Region".
3. Keep "Date" as the default 2025-03-20.
4. Click check.

How to Interpret the Results

Focus on three key figures in the search results:

• Prices across different markets for the same variety: Prices can vary between wholesale markets in the same city. Choose the lowest one to buy.
• Price fluctuation: An increase of over 10% warns of continued short-term hikes; a drop of over 10% might indicate a seasonal oversupply, making it a good time to stock up.
• Update time: Morning data is fresher than late afternoon data, though evening prices sometimes reflect clearance sales.

Common Mistakes / Pitfalls to Avoid

1. Confusing retail prices with wholesale prices: This tool tracks wholesale market transaction prices, not local grocery market retail prices. Wholesale prices are generally only 40% to 60% of retail prices.
2. Looking at only one market's data: A single city may have multiple wholesale markets, and price differences can often exceed 15%. Check a few before making a decision.
3. Ignoring origin labels: The price table displays the origin of the batch (e.g., "Tangshan, Hebei"). Quality varies by origin, so don't just look at the price.
4. Using yesterday's data to guess today's: Produce prices change daily. Always select the latest date and avoid making purchasing decisions based on the day before yesterday's data.

Q1: Where does this tool get its data? We integrate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' agricultural wholesale market price information system, updating price data from over 200 wholesale markets nationwide daily.

Q2: Why do I get no results when searching for "pork"? Currently, we only cover categories like vegetables, fruits, aquatic products, and grain/oil. Livestock and fresh meat are in a separate section. Try adding a space and a keyword after "pork" in the variety box, or search directly for "pork carcass".

Q3: Is the price unit in kilograms or jin (half-kilos)? All price units are in RMB/kg, which is the price for 1 kilogram (2 jin). If you are used to jin, simply divide the number by 2 to get the price per jin.

Q4: Are the prices real-time? Wholesale markets typically release prices before 10:00 AM, and we finish updating by 2:00 PM daily. Checking the data in the afternoon gives you that day's market trends.

Q5: Can I check historical price trends? Currently, we only display the latest data for a single date. A historical trend feature is planned and will be added later.
