Let's walk through a real-world scenario: You need to build a fence around a right triangular garden, and the two legs are 6 meters and 8 meters long. When you open our calculator, you will see three input fields: Side a, Side b, and Side c. As long as you know any two of them, you can calculate the third.
The calculator will display the result on the right: Hypotenuse c = 10 meters. The Pythagorean theorem formula is a² + b² = c². Here, 6² = 36, 8² = 64, and 36 + 64 = 100. The square root of 100 is 10. Therefore, you need 10 meters of fencing for the hypotenuse.
The result is the length of the missing side, in the same unit you used for your inputs (e.g., if you enter meters, the result is in meters; if you enter centimeters, the result is in centimeters). The tool only performs the calculation and does not convert units, so please ensure all inputs use the same unit of measurement.
